Relying on my fading memory, the type is how the disk or partition is
formatted.

DOS0 the OFS (Original file system)
DOS1 the newer FFS (Fast file system)
DOS3 introduced iirc in Workbench 3.x FFS-DC (Fast filesystem directory
cache)

You can check these by formatting a floppy disk.
